Using a pillow beyond its expiry date considerably decreases comfort for its user. How long does a pillow last? How often should domestic pillows be replaced? Many of us do this only when we change the mattress. The popular belief that pillows have the same life cycle as a mattress is, in fact, wrong. A mattress retains its properties for as much as 8-10 years, while the life of a pillow is at most 24 months.
In fact, it is a product that wears far faster: after two years, the product's hygienic, sanitary, ergonomic and mechanical specifications tend to deteriorate, altering its overall performance. This also occurs – most importantly – in the case of an ergonomic pillow, designed to improve posture during sleep, and for which wear considerably reduces the benefits. For this reason, it is important to comply with the recommended duration of the pillow as advised by the company that produced it, replacing it punctually at its date of expiry.
